Assess Change Potential
We like the following model for think through a systems change potential (by Beck and Cowans) and determining readiness to create conditions for Change. The model assesses Change Potential as OPEN, ARRESTED OR CLOSED. The following reflect some of the considerations along that continuum:
Are there unresolved problems that must be addressed before change can occur
Is there enough dissatisfaction with theexisting state of affairs for change to be compelling
Is there a real understanding and insight about the deep dissatisfaction and an awareness of alternative options for resolution?
Can the specific barriers to change be identified, eliminated neutralized or reformed into something else. A direct assault on internal and external barriers maybe required.
Can the organization sustain the period ofturbulence, chaos in modifying the base, burying old paradigmsto get to the stage of assimilating, supportingand consolidating the new changes so they can take root and germinate.
